Why Organic?....

We made the switch last year to organic and never really took completely to it, I just thought since I was shopping at Whole Foods I was doing the best that I could, then once we moved we lost our Whole Foods and I just started shopping again at a local supermarket with really nothing organic. The only thing I would get organic would be milk & eggs since I kind of gagged at the prices of their organic produce.

This summer we really buckled down on our eating. We decided that it was truly best for our family and our health to do a major overhaul on what goes into our bodies.

We found a local farmer to get all our meat and eggs from (grass fed organic and free range), I sucked it up and started shopping only organic produce and since we do not have a Whole Foods when Jordan travels he will pick up items there that I can not get at our supermarket.

You will not eat the exact same as before with the budget increase so you have do not let that deter you from making the switch, as the weeks go on we find creative ways to make meals versitile and really push the meats and produce over a few days (recipes to come)

Things that have drastically changed since switching organic....

1. I feel BETTER, I think the boost of TRUE omega 3's has helped me!
Since factory cows are fed grain they do not have the omega 3 fatty acids that our bodies need, and that can affect our mood. I have noticed I am happier and not so bitchy, which is saying a lot for a pregnant lady! I also noticed my pregnancy weight gain in NOT near what it used to be at this point. We also try to get grassfed milk that has the boost of natural Omega 3's for us and the boys. Also the farm fresh eggs give us yet ANOTHER boost!

2. The snacks and CRAP food have been completely cut out because I want to stay in "budget".
Since I am spending more on the good stuff (produce) I do not have any left over money to buy junk food, which is AMAZING for everyone, because it is really not great for you! When I do buy snacks they are organic or all natural, which can also be pricey which cut down again on more JUNK. Our favorite are the Cheddar Bunny Mix, I do not buy it at Kroger because it is no joke 7 DOLLARS (for a freaking box) I order it bulk on amazon for 14 bucks for 4 boxes...yes it's that cheap! It has replaced my cheez-it addiction! haha
3. Cooking is more fun!
I love cooking with the fresh veggies! Everything tastes so much better and healthier. We always have something fresh cut up and ready to snack on in the fridge. We also have been cooking with more organic butter and coconut oil to substitute out some of the processed stuff. It is always a challenge to find the perfect recipe but it actually stops you from making some stuff that is not exactly healthy.

4. Kids love veggies.
I know people think it is crazy to see kids chomping on a carrot stick(by choice) but when the boys see Jordan eating Celery Stalks or Carrots they want to join in! Vincent LOVES veggies now, it really pays off that they see us eating healthy because in turn they will want to eat healthy. Its my job as their parent to teach them the right and healthy habits early on!

I am not the perfect eater by ANY means...
I have some hidden snacks in the pantry but I try my best to keep them out of reach/eye sight of the boys so they eat better than I do! If I want to ruin my health by snacking that is my choice but it's not fair to ruin their eating habits.

They do get snacks so do not think I am crazy....haha Vincent loves sweets (ice cream and m&ms) and I still bake and make lots of treats, I just switch out vegetable oil for coconut oil and try to make it as healthy as possible, which lets face it-is not easy!

Also to find local grass fed beef or local meats check out EAT WILD
Scroll down and find your state and see what's out there! We had NO CLUE until we found this site. But we will never go back to eating the more processed stuff in the supermarkets. The meat is probably THE MOST EXPENSIVE part of our grocery budget but we manage it with all the cuts from junk being made.

Read up on it, you will be amazed on what you really find out about what's in our "food"....I wish I would have known all of this so much sooner, but I am thankful to make the switch now for my boys!

Books I would recommend- Omnivores Dilemma & In Defense of Food
Movies- Food Inc.

Happy eating and grocery shopping!

  1. Brice and I made the switch from the regular meat to organic meat last year and the TASTE is what really blew me away. Chicken, beef, everything tastes better when it's not pumped full of steroids and God-knows-what.

Where we will be moving to has a farmers market every weekend that I am so happy about. There's also a lot of Amish markets! Love fresh food!

  2. Well, I looked up a farm from your website and there is actually one near us! They sell in bulk though and its soooo expensive!!

  3. YES YES YES! LOVE that you are on Team Organic like us :) Preach, mama! haha
