I am typically not a HUGE pie lover...
Mainly because I am not a huge fan of pie crust.
It is awkwardly bland and gooey and creeps me out a little.
I can handle a good graham cracker crust though (yummo!)
The other day I was browsing pinterest and saw a pin for cinnamon roll crust.
I no joke packed the kids up and hit the grocery for cinnamon roll dough and all the fixings for an apple pie. I had never made one before but I was determined!
So yes, if you have never made a pie...you too can!!!
A few tips I saw were to use granny smith apples, or golden delicious.
I also read to thinly slice apples and also throw them in the microwave or oven before baking!
Here is what you will need:
7-8 green apples (sliced thin)
3/4 cup sugar
2 TBS Flour
2 tsp Apple Pie Spice
2 TBS Lemon Juice
1 package Cinnamon Roll Buns
Crumb Topping (BEST THING EVER)
1 cup flour
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 tsp apple pie spice (optional)
Preheat oven to 375.
Grease your pie pan, and try your best not to drop it on the tile! (story of my life)
(Next go to your neighbors and borrow their pan!)
Mix the crumb topping first. Place in the fridge so it is easy to break up for the last step.
Slice your apples and mix everything together in a bowl. I tossed them in the oven for probably 5 minutes before assembling the pie. While they are in the oven or microwave you can get the crust ready. I took the cinnamon rolls out individually and smashed them with my hand making them as thin as possible. Starting with one in the middle push them around the entire rim of the pie pan.
Take the apples from the oven and pour into crust! (They will be tender)
Sprinkle with crumb topping and put back in the oven!
Bake for 45 minutes - 1 hour. Until the top is nice and brown!
Serve with ice cream and ENJOY!!! (I have made this 3 times in the past few weeks!)
