Okay these bad boys are insane.
I totally forgot to post this recipe a few months back and I just ran across the pics....
I must have been too busy licking the pan clean from these to post them.
That, or I wanted to keep this tasty secret all to myself.
I'm greedy like that sometimes
Whatever the reason here is the recipe for you now!
For the crust (the crack)
1 lb. salted butter (because everything that is divine needs butter)
1 cup sugar
1½ cups powdered sugar
2 TBS vanilla
4 cups flour
1 bag (14 oz.) caramels unwrapped.
⅓ cup milk
½ teaspoon vanilla
Sea Salt is optional to sprinkle on the bars...I reccommend it!
Time to get down and dirty in the kitchen:
1. Preheat oven to 325°
2.Add everything for the crust in a bowl and mix until a smooth dough forms.
3.Spread only 1/3 of the dough into a greased 9x13 pan. (Leave the rest in a bowl and place in the fridge)
4.Bake crust until golden about 20 mins and cool on a rack for about 15 mins.
5. In the meantime, make the caramel filling. Place unwrapped caramels in a glass bowl, pour in the milk.
Microwave on high for 1 minute, checking and stirring every 30 seconds.
(You can also do this on your stove top as well.)
6.Once the caramel is melted add vanilla and stir it up! Pour that gorgeous caramel ontop of the cooled bar crust. Sprinkle with sea salt if you choose!:)
7.Remove the remaining crust and break it up all over the bars. Use ALL of it too! It is seriously so good when it bakes up!
8. Return to the oven for 20-25 minutes or until nice and golden brown.
Once they are chilled, cut them into squares and enjoy!
WARNING: These are addicting and guests may get into cat fights over them.
